Principles of Eco-Friendly Building Design
When I first dove into the world of eco-friendly building design, I was fascinated by how architecture can harmonise with nature rather than compete against it. This approach is not just a trend but a necessary shift towards sustainability. In this post, I want to share some core principles that guide the creation of buildings that respect the environment while offering functional, beautiful spaces. Understanding these principles can help anyone interested in architecture - w

Oscar's Arts Outpost is open for business!
I have just opened my online shop, I am beginning to add products to the inventory, hopefully a range of products and services will eventually be available via this site, there are already five prints for sale and I plan to put more online soon! Over Christmas I have been able to secure some supplies for the workshop. Such as a drying rack which I procured from Wiltshire college, it's been upcycled and seems to be just the thing to produce prints, it is capable of producing

Time is Precious: Engaging with Our Communities
The Importance of Community Engagement Time is precious. These days, people have so many demands and lead busy lives. I often find it difficult to engage with my local community. It seems that many have forgotten the value of traditional social activities, such as attending church or joining local clubs. These institutions play a crucial role in our lives. How many of us are still interested in our communities? I believe there is a strong need for these institutions. They pro

Local Inspiration
Home - Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson Fondation Le Corbusier This blog is all about French photography! I definitely think that the subject is becoming far more accessible and more diverse. I like the way the photography is very democratic and there's a lot you can learn about it in books and at galleries it's one way of learning about the world. I also liked the work of Le Corbusier his paintings and like Cartier-Bresson he has left a truly amazing legacy. When you look at

Talk: Sustainable lifestyles, lower consumption and non corporate agendas.
There are lots of features about the RAISE course in France that I liked and I would like to publish much more about the subject. I have found a good book recently called 'The Secret Life of Trees'. I would really like this to be my space for posting updates. There's a lot of information out there and some good campaigns here in Bath. People are showing that the fight to save the environment is really taking shape. Every day there are new plans and conferences as the media te

October Highlights: Innovations in Continuity and Expression
I've been looking again at the site and making new work in various media, 35mm is increasing, and more work is being added. I've been doing doing a bit of creative writing recently, and I love having that the freedom to discuss certain issues and to discover the world in my own time, using the equipment I currently have to craft new items, such as woodcuts and lino cuts. I'm doing a lot of reading as well, and working a number of jobs, I get the chance sometimes to see new th

The Alps and the Pyrenees.
I have a couple of new books to read, Andy Warhol's 'Beauty' and Pierre Assouline's 'Henri Cartier-Bresson A Biography'. Thinking of framing a few of the photos. Getting some printed out to see how they look. Both these artists have influenced me recently. I also looked at Bresson's book 'The Decisive Moment' and although I don't own that one it is definitely on my reading list. Perhaps I should go to the library more often. Bath has a lovely library and quite modern. I also

Exploring New Perspectives
Although work on the design portfolio is proving quite slow I still have a lot more work to do here. I am quite pleased with the new work I have which is based around my 35mm cameras. I currently use both the Olympus Om 40 and the Pentax K1000. I am planning a trip to Lille where I expect to use the K1000 for the first time! Going via the Eurostar I'm really excited about this new trip and also the website is starting to look really good! I think some of the the photos look r

Think global.
I like most people in the U.K live in a densely populated urban space, my main escape from this concrete jungle is the green space we have in cities, for years it's been a retreat for me, and they are increasingly valuable spaces as cities expand. Now they are also seen as wildlife corridors and havens for all kinds of species. Having studied permaculture and horticulture I am convinced the one thing the council should invest in is improving biodiversity. Schemes like tree pl

The next step.
I am uploading new media to the site and finding my niche, it's got to be something that appeals to employers at the moment which is why a lot of it is under construction. If you know of any let me know, my field of expertise is in horticulture mainly but I've also studied French and Architecture. I'm currently at A2 level so may I say 'Bonjour' to all my French users, you are very welcome. If you have any ideas how the site can be improved I'd love to hear them, I really wan
